Captain Gary Burns is a surfer/sailor. His life has been defined by his love of family, the ocean and surfing.

In 1974 he bought his first boat in Lahaina, Maui and sailed away in search of waves and adventure. Sailing throughout Mexico, Central and South America and the South Pacific he found both. 30 years on and little has changed.

Skippering the Mahalo II he still has the same stoke going strong. As one of the first charter operators in Indonesia and 15 years in the Timor area, his experience insures that you are always surfing the best waves and conditions everyday. He holds a Master 5 Captain's ticket and has logged 135,000 sea miles.

Your safety, comfort and good waves are his priority. Friendly and accessible, Gary will work hard to provide you with the most memorable surfing experience of your life.

CAPTIANS NOTE:
When I started creating this web site I looked at other sites for ideas and to see how our boat and charter compared. Some compared favorably others seemed weak. So I asked myself what makes us a little differant,a little better? Why should some one pay their hard earned dollers and charter Mahalo II.

Well I believe it's the little things that make the difference between a great charter and an ordinary one. Everything from a cheerful "good morning", helping with a ding repair or just making sure there's peanut butter on the table all help to create a positive feeling on board. There are other aspects of this charter that I think are special and make us a little differant I've listed some I feel are important.

  1. We are the only boat that operates exclusively in the Timor/Sumba area. Chances are you will never see another boat full of surfers for the duration of your excursion.

  2. Charter experience counts. Being one of the first charter operators in Indonesia, 14 years chartering and 15 years in the area, means both myself and our crew have deep understanding of all aspects of the business.

  3. We are owner operated. It's ours and we take pride in everything we do.

  4. The weather is near perfect. Dry fresh conditions all during the charter season.

  5. Family and couple friendly.

  6. Very little Malaria.

  7. The boat is fully surveyed yearly by the Queensland Australia Maritime Safety board.

The simple fact is many charter boats operating In Indonesia could never pass a qualified survey and are disasters waiting to happen. Local style boats are the worst examples.

How far could you paddle to safety?

  8. We maintain an appropriate Liability Insurance programme for our operation with an international Protection and Indemnity Club through specialist Insurance Brokers Gualt Armstrong & Kemble (W.Australia) Pty Ltd.

  9. 30% of our guests return.

All indicators point to an epic season! I extend a personal invitation to everyone to join me for some great waves and a few Bingtangs…

Gary Burns, Captian Mahalo II
